On the afternoon of the 24th, along with the Kemps and Jean Tholet, we flew to Nairobi (via Vic Falls) with Kenyan Airways. We arrived late in the evening and were joined at the airport by Ann and Rainer Ludwig who flew in from Johannesburg with the same airline. Our shuttle driver John was waiting for us and managed to get us to the “Residences” (our place for the night) in the Karen Country Club grounds a little after midnight.

That afternoon after a morning spent birding and looking at trees on the golf course we flew out to “House In The Wild” situated on the banks of the Mara river in the Enonkishu Conservancy on the edge of the Masai Mara.
We were met at the Ngerende bush airstrip by our host Brett Sievwright and his team including Moses, our guide for the next few days and what a guide he turned out to be, with a broad knowledge of the fauna and flora of the area. The short drive to our lodge, “The House in the Wild” with Tusker light refreshments in hand was interrupted by a short stop to view a large pod of Hippo wallowing in a large pool in the Mara river.
We had arrived in time to settle in, unpack and then go for a late afternoon drive around part of the Conservancy.
Then back to “House in the Wild” for dinner and nightcaps……..
We spent the next couple of days having most enjoyable morning and late afternoon game drives around the Conservancy.
Work in progress…..
